Best MPG I EVER got was 18.9 going from Las Cruces to Clovis NM.

This weekend I got like 17mpg on the highway from Los Alamos to Las Cruces NM.

Toying with the idea of getting a Dodge 2500 Cummins ... oooooh

My friend from CT has one of those. Some asshole hit him, so he just got a new bumper and a fresh coat of paint. The candy paint is immaculate, yeah it's simply amazin.

His diesel blog has pictures of it:
http://diesel-power.blogspot.com/

[edit] Did I mention that the twin-turbo kit is bolt-on? He's got a fast box for it, too. If you set it to level 4/5 and stomp on the gas, the stock torque converter will overheat and explode.

I really like diesel trucks, but there are some big issues that are preventing me from going down that path:
1) I hate automatic transmissions, and I'm not willing to shift through 45 gears to get to 30mph. My car has 5 gears, and redline in fifth gear would be 160mph
2) I'm not a redneck
2b) Really, I'm not a redneck. I vote democrat and everything
3) I like being able to park in parking spots
4) Did I mention I get 32mpg?

1) uhm, you can get a stick in a diesel.  Dodge has 5 & 6spds.  I'd love a 6 spd Cummins
2) I'm redneck enough ;)
3) My truck is already big, a dodge would be about the same size I'd think
4) A buddy said he gets about 30 mpg on the highway in his 3500 Cummins

Really? How fast can you go with six speeds? 80?

My buddy with the 2500 gets 24mpg with the fastbox on level zero (which is better than stock gas mileage).

Get your hands on a Jeep Cherokee (the old kind).

1) I drive an automagic, but you can get sticks as well.
2) I live in Wisconsin, although my neck is a bit red in a literal sense, thanks to sunburn.
3) This thing has amazing turning radius. I can U-Turn in a residential street.
4) I get about 25mph. I was told 30 from the guy I bought it from, but I"m not sure.

EDIT -
My speedometer goes to 85. Being tailgated on the interstate inspired me to bury the needle to around 5 o'clock, though, and 85 is probably at 4, so it was probably 95-100mph.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

I'm not sure what it isregulated to, but once you program it (which you HAVE to do to any diesel ;)!) you can push 130 I bet.  My truck was limited at like 90?  I've bumped 115 before.

Why should I get a Jeep? I already have a manual transmission, amazing turning radius (I can also u-turn on any two-lane road), and 30mpg. Also, I've got lots of family in Wisconsin, and as far as I'm concerned you're all rednecks.

[edit] My speedometer goes to 155, which is what it's electronically limited to. I've heard rumors that it can go 165, but I'm not gonna try to find out. Also, you can't really use the tach to gauge your speed in an automatic; the torque converter isn't guaranteed to be 1:1. I suppose a clutch isn't either, but if you're burning your clutch, you will definitely know about it shortly after.
