Did you get the 16gb?  And is it even worth buying right now?  Aren't they just going to come out with a larger one for about the same price anyway?

Wouldn't that just make it bulkier?

Have you seen how incredibly tiny the new iPod "classics" are? The new 80gb model is smaller than the previous 30gb!

I actually have not seen any of the new iPods in real life yet.  Only on the Internet.

Actually, I haven't either. But if you look at the specs, that's what they're claiming.

Myndy, do you have any problems with watching dark movie scenes?  I have read articles that say that there have been problems with the iTouch when it comes to watching dark scenes in movies, and I was curious if your iTouch had that problem.  Another question I have is: have you tried to listen to music and open up 2-3 tabs on the web browser?  If so, have you experinced any problems there?

problem with harddrives are more moving parts, more battery consumption, and slower reads.
One must ask oneself: "do I will trolling to become a universal law?" And then when one realizes "yes, I do will it to be such," one feels completely justified.

When flash memory becomes so cheap that they can beat 50Gb for the same price, I'll buy a solid state iPod touch. Until then, I want one with a harddrive.

The battery life so far on the solid-state device is incredible as opposed to my 5th-gen 80gb.

Problems not so much as a bit of an annoyance.  There's something of a negative glare when looking straight on at a dark movie scene.  However, it can be avoided by looking at a slight angle.

This bad boy is about as this as the display part of my RAZR V3t.  Very hawt.

Then use any number of solutions to unlock it, and use it on whichever network you like.
As other people have pointed out, it's GSM, and while I do have t-mobile, the wireless internet service supported by iPhone is 3G, which sucks monkey balls as well.  If I get an iPhone, it'll be some time down the line.

Yes, I got the 16gb.  It's definitely worth it.  By far the best portable music player I've ever used.  And if I used the logic of the bigger for less money argument, I'd never buy any kind of technology.

Bigger to an extent.  I would want atleast 30gb.  I would want to be able to store all my music plus videos and anime onto my iTouch without having to worry about replacing old videos when I want a new one on there.

However!  I really really want an iTouch!  So I don't know how long I can wait. :O

P.S.
Can you format any video to mpeg4?

First I just want to clarify some jargon. GSM can mean either the group of technologies (including UMTS), or specifically the 2G network (the predecessor to UMTS).

Is it UMTS, or one of the other 50 million GSM 3g technologies? It doesn't even have a GSM fallback at all? I hear there are tons of deadspots, but I've never used it. In the CDMA world, you can use the CDMA2000 protocol over 1xRTT and it's considered 2.5G, because you get all of the features but none of the broadband.

My Verizon phone has 1xRTT (2g) and EV-DO (3g), and it's pretty rare that I don't have a signal on both. In the year that I've had my phone, I've only had one call dropped, and it's because I was moving from an area of only EV-DO coverage to an area of only 1xRTT coverage, for which there's no mechanism for switchoff.

[edit] Additionally, it has an 802.11 card in it; both CDMA and GSM providers are moving toward a [tradesecret] goal of enabling all ATs to be only 802.11 enabled, so they can VPN to the network and do VoIP calls similar to the way 3g networks work. Cell towers would broadcast a sort of 802.11 tunnel. [/tradesecret]

Does the iTouch internet only work with WIFI? If so it isn't worth it for me. :( Or is there some service you can subscribe to that allows you anywhere internet?

In order to use 3g service, you need to have 3g service.
