Parity Looms for Canadian Dollar
« on: September 20, 2007, 10:52:51 am »
http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/financialpost/markets/story.html?id=781e0bde-2bb6-44db-a65a-42fb99342a4c

Apparently, yesterday, the Canadian dollar passed the American dollar. While I'm posting this, Google Finance says the Canadian dollar is worth $0.999 USD.

It was only a couple years ago that our dollar was worth about 56 cents, and now we're basically even. Woo!

Crap....now I can't make jokes about your money anymore :\

On a side note, http://www.x-rates.com/d/USD/table.html says that 1 CAD = 0.985513 USD, and http://www.x-rates.com/ says 1 CAD = 0.985512 USD.  Close...

I can't believe your weird shaped money is worth more.

Our money is the exact same shape and size! The only difference is the embossed images and the colours of the paper money.

And yeah, no more joking about our money. Soon, it'll be jokes about the American dollar! Muahaha!

Sure sucks to be you. Because now all those things like books and such that have US and Canadian prices really screw the Canadians... do the stores still go by those prices?

Yeah, generally stores go by that. But if you buy stuff online from American sites, you win.

Also, things like this work themselves out.

Canadians are  just so poor their currency has doubled in value because there isn't enough to go around. Or something.

You've been waiting to post this for years, as your dollar slowly crept up in value. Now I know why you always took the jokes so well, you knew this day would come :(

Edit: On another financial note... GOOG stock is at $553/share. Wtf?! That's like, a 600% growth in value since the IPO. I wish I had money, and a time machine.

No, it's doubled because the American dollar has plummeted. So even though our money's stayed the same, it's relative value has doubled. Just take a look at a comparison between the US Dollar and the Euro, which shows the same trend as the USD against everything.

It's sad.  We need to decrease nat'l debt, cut off more welfare like programs, decrease defense spending (yeah, I said that), and just spending in general.

Maybe if we weren't spending a couple billion a week fighting two retarded wars we'd have a better value for the dollar.

Damnit.

At least we can still make fun of the lira.

Also, it takes more liters of petrol to fill your petrol tank than it takes gallons of gas to fill mine.

We don't need to decrease defense spending unless we're no longer in Iraq, but as long as we're there we need to outfit our troops as best we can. This war is expensive, but it's not something we can cut corners on. My only problem with the war is the cost factor, but I'm not about to agree with anything that would cut funding.

Welfare, on the other hand, should be removed immediately.

I think welfare should be replaced with retard insurance. We'll call it welfare.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.
