How stupid. Guess it's better than the "millions" of dollars they sought for damage.

I think that's bullshit. It's like charging somebody for speeding (;)) when everybody does it. Oh no, suddenly everyone is going to stop!

On a side note, people use KaZaA? lol.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

You responded within 30 seconds. Did you even read the article?

Normally the idea is to read the article so you don't sound like a raging retard. It's a 30 year old mother with two children. Does the best solution sound like draining her bank account so that not only does she suffer, but her children do too? Now she can't put dinner on the table for her kids? Suddenly her kids are going to need financial aid for college?

You got in trouble for underage drinking. Why do you drink underage? Because you think it's OK? Because you have a blatant disregard for the law? When you got in trouble, you should have known that you were going to get in trouble. Why didn't you just plead guilty?

Same kind of situation here. Stupid law, overly harsh punishment.

I read it (or at least one touching on the same topic) hours ago...it was on Fark

re: my MIP, I agree we should be prosecuted, and we were.  Also, I agree that the courts/officers should use discretion in convictions and all.  I don't necessarily agree with her $220k loss, however, it isn't wrong for that decision to be made.

edit:
I wouldn't agree with me getting 3 months in prison, but then again it wouldn't be wrong for them to give me those 3 months or 100 hours community service or the $5k (or something) fine.

You plead "no contest" and as far as I know, you're not explicitly admitting to your guilt with a plea like that.

It's very wrong to charge her $220,000. The songs on iTunes would have cost... oh... $1 each? Instead, they cost $9,250? That makes no damn sense at all. How about prosecuting the people who downloaded the songs from her? That way, you can make $9,250 off of them too!

We plead "not guilty" originally, then came to an agreement that if we keep outta trouble we're good.

The extra $$$ can be attributed to punitive damages to punish her
