If you're taking honors/AP for the inflated grade you're in the wrong class. I hate the weighted grade bullshit. If I saw I had a 3.0 as opposed to the 3.8 I had managed all year... I would have definitely tried harder.
As do I. My school district does things a bit weirdly. AP grades are, of course, weighted. But then my grades, which are from the University of Minnesota (and more than likely a hell of a lot harder than AP classes without all the pointless busywork) are unweighted. It's really quite ridiculous, I think.
Well you see they are weighted for that exact reason, it being that they are standardized courses. I don't know what your courses were, but my AP courses were taught by smart people and they sometimes harder than the college equivalents that they are designed to replace, at least at most state schools. MIT/Caltech/etc is a diff story.
I mean of course, chemistry/physics/calc/etc courses. Any of the more "soft subjects" rely way too much on the teacher's ability imo for it to be discussed.
