black is more politically correct than AA
PC seems to be 99% about euphamisms, thus I'd say African American is more PC. It's like saying that someone passed away instead of died, threw up instead of puked, was sexually assaulted instead of raped, or is caucasion instead of white. It's all about NOT stating the obvious, right?
Wrong. Black people can come from other places than just Africa, such as the Caribbean or the Middle East (which isn't the right term anyway). "Passed away" is just more polite, and same with "threw up". Sexual Assault and Rape are two different things. And white people can come from other places than just the Caucus Mountains area in Russia.
No..no he seems to have Political Correctness nailed pretty well.
Assumptions? Check
Cautiousness around race? Check
Stupidity? Check
Political Correctness is only needed and used (when addressing race), to those who clearly see the distinction. Coming from one of the most diverse areas in my state, and going to one of the most diverse schools, after a while you learn to look at people as just people. The color of the skin, or their ethnic background is pretty much irrelevant. Therefore, no caution is needed when talking to them because the distinction between race isn't there, therefore it's like talking to anyone.
I think it outlines a major problem when we have to conjure "bandaids" such as "African American" to attempt to relate to them. It's perfectly fine to call them Black as long as you're describing physical features (Just as I'd say Trust has Red hair if describing him). It is however, not right to use their skin color as a basis upon which to stereotype them.
That's basically all you need to know, and you avoid this politically correct bullshit.
