Chuck Norris sues...

His tears don't cause cancer, but I'm pretty sure they'll cause the end of Chuck Norris jokes. Who wants to make jokes about a crybaby bitch who is upset people make $$ off of his name?

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Last time I checked, satire is legal.

In any case, this will do nothing but help the book. Suddenly it goes from nothing to something that everybody hears about. If Norris had done nothing, the book probably would have sold a whole lot less.

This is a common phenomenon known as the Streisand Effect, where drawing attention to a problem makes it worse. :)

It's not that he wants the book not sold, he just wants money from it.  If he winds the case, he'll get a LOT more money.  Also, in America, free speech is illegal.

It's not gonna look good for the book company though. As one /. poster put it, "When Chuck Norris sues, he brings the verdict, not the charges."

Go back to selling the Total Gym on TV, crybaby. :(

Agreed. They should pay him what he's due and everyone is happy.

Nice, but that brings up the question: what's due to him? Many people would say nothing.

While I agree chuck doesn't deserve anything, I would also have to say that neither do the author/publisher for stealing a bunch of other people's jokes and making them into a book

They're using his name to make money without permission, that is wrong.

A percentage of the book sales. The publisher will be making money because of Chuck Norris's recent popularity and also off of his name. Why shouldn't he get a cut?

So are you saying that Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, and every satire site is wrong?

This is satire, not theft. There's a huge difference, especially financially.

SNL doesn't use a person's popularity to make money.  They might mock them in some skits, but that isn't the whole basis for the show.

That's a pretty silly thing to say.  If the people they mocked weren't famous, none of the skits would make sense.  Of course they "exploit" their audience's familiarity with the subject.  Norris' "popularity" is largely a sarcastic reverence maintained as a result of these stupid jokes that deify him.

Yes they do, why else would they have guest hosts? They sell advertisment time, the more popular the show, the more expencive theadvertising slots become.

Guest hosts give permission.   We're not talking about guest hosts

Okay, well, what about Will Farrel playing as Robert Gulet? Or, as Hary Karey? He is using a person's populatiry to make money, the same way that Norm McDonald would pretend to be Burt Renolds. The reason why they make money is only based on the people they make fun of. If they made jokes like Joe does, no one would understand. ("Well, today jessie and I went to the mall and we saw lary, he is so  dumb. Tehehe") They need popular people to make fun of, so the show can sell advertising time.
