Art
« on: January 06, 2008, 07:01:20 pm »
So since I have my own place now, I'm looking at things to put on the bare-looking walls. I found this picture at Walmart that I loved:

I've been looking at getting other stuff. It seems that DeviantArt has a lot of cool pictures (although I'm open to suggestions from other places). Note that I'm looking for things that are predominantly black or grey, and also that have a dark or macabre feeling to them.

Here are the ones I've found so far that I like......

I think these two are my favorites:

http://chaoslokiart.deviantart.com/art/the-Raven-8142106

These ones also appeal to me:

And these are just cool, I'd put it in the room I use for gaming/painting, not a main area:

Also, I'd love to put up a portrait of Lovecraft, and having Brown Jenkins (a monster from one of his books) on his shoulder is awesome:

Any thoughts on those pictures? Favorites? Other suggestions or sites I should look at?

That I am the end picture is creepy as hell. Other then that, they all look stunning. Especially that tree. I'd go for it. I know I've decorated my walls with movie posters instead of art but, the feeling is a bit the same. Watch out though, it can get addicting. You end up spending a lot more then you planned.

The drawings you have are pretty nice but I prefer  photography over  artwork done by hand, so artists like this strike my eye :

Which one?

And yeah, I can see how it'd get expensive fast, but I only have so much room so I can't go too far, I don't think.

I would recommend getting at least one reproduction of a famous piece of art, a Picasso or Van Gogh - just for a touch of class, and it's a mature addition when dealing with women. Good luck finding a wife with a painting of a cemetery or a zombie, I don't know too many girls who are into that kind of thing. To each his own though.

I definitely don't want any well known art. It doesn't say class to me, it says "copycat". Famous painters are boring because everybody who wants to appear to have class gets them.

If I was to get the cemetery and zombie and stuff, it would be for the room where I do my painting and gaming. It's more of a personal area, so I intend to get things that I like for it. Ones I'd get for the rest of my apartment would be more landscapes or animals, like the first couple pictures I linked here, plus the one I added in line.

I could just write on a piece of paper, and scan it for you.  I mean, who wouldn't want some of my awesomeness in their room?!  :)
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

I see your point, zombies are for those with legit class. ;)

Edit: For the record I don't have any reprints of famous artwork in my home or dorm, but I could see getting a piece for my dorm or apartment. Not so much for an actual home, I'd prefer to pay for an original from a lesser known or local artist.

I just ordered my favorites, and none of them have zombies in them. Most of them are from the first link that B.A.D. posted, actually. I got a bunch of little $1.95 ones, and 3 or 4 bigger. Came to just under $100 after converting to your dollar (I still love this!), then we'll see what it costs for framing them when they arrive. :-/

We'll see who has the last laugh over the exchange rate, just you wait. And yeah framing can get pretty pricey, but I hope everything works out and it fits well in your apartment.

Haha yeah, the exchange rate won't be here forever, but we'd might as well enjoy it while it lasts!

And I know all about how expensive framing is, but I figure I'll just frame my favorite couple initially and keep the rest for later.
