Cloverfield
« on: January 18, 2008, 08:29:58 pm »
So, I saw it today.  It is a monster movie in the sense of "Godzilla" but it didn't really play out like one.  The way the film was shot made me feel motion sick all throughout the movie and I really couldn't see myself wanting to see it again, mostly because it had very little of a story.  I hope the sequel (if they make one) has more of a story then this did.  It's really hard talking about the movie without giving away what happened, because so little happened.  The effects were standard movie explosions we all had way before 2004 so really nothing outstanding there.  The way they used the camera is a neat idea, but there was way too much movement to make it that great.  The monster in the movie did look pretty cool, though, you know, for the 5-7 scenes (about 2 out of 90 minutes of the movie) in the movie it shows it.

So, overall, nothing I haven't seen before other than one or two things.

Yea the lady at the ticket counter showed me the warning sign for motion sickness when I bought my ticket. The constant camera movement didn't bother me that much, it was just the movie is horrible, its pretty much Godzilla with tiny little spider parasites. The ending... wait there was no ending, it doesn't show what happened to the monster at all, it just leaves off with an explosion. Possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.

This movie was terrible. The camera was awful, the characters lacked depth, the monster wasn't scary at all, and the action was very limited.

And the ending blew.

I may have been stoned, but damn, that movie was awful.

0.1/5 stars.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I thought it was more of a 2/5 stars.  It automatically gets 1 point for having Zergling-like monsters.  :)

I am a very motion sickness person and had to leave after 20 minutes of it. I got my refund and will never see it again.

Fuck you, that movie was horrible.

The few decent things were the action and the camera technique (which was WAY exaggerated and pissed me the FUCK OFF!).

Granted I nodded off through a few parts, but I'll be damned if that isn't the worst movie I've slept through.

This movie was lame. It sucks so much that if it was a dude, it would have a harder time getting laid than newby.

HAhahaha.  I was still considering seeing it, but you single-handedly convinced me not to.

I sort of want to just to catch the few scenes I missed ... but that means I'd have to see the parts the I saw all over again

I missed one of the most important plot scenes, apparently.

*Spoilers*

Apparently the monster fell from the sky in the last scene on the ferris wheel?  I totally missed that.

I haven't seen it yet.  A problem I have is I have horrible motion sickness problems, but aside from that I still want to see it.  I'll just have to look away from time to time to counter the sickness.
The once grove of splendor,
Aforetime crowned by lilac and lily,
Lay now forevermore slender;
And all winds that liven
Silhouette a lone existence;
A leafless oak grasping at eternity.

Meh, I have had stomach problems all my life so a little stomach sickness isn't going to stop me from watching something I really want to see.  Thanks for the warning though, much appreciated. ^^

I've read articles about people leaving 20 minutes in and not being able to return ... this movie fails.

I thought it came from the ocean.

It was something falling from space that awoke it.

On a funny note the first scene with the monster I sort of had it and yelled out. "No wonder the lochness monster come back you keep givin him tree fitty" The entire audience burst out laughing and some guy in the back imitated chefs mom and goes "Aww I thought he'd shoo away, stupid lochness monster".

Other then that the movie was meh, what made it worst was the Hellboy 2 trailer *shudder*
