Issue when transferring large files on home networ
« on: January 28, 2008, 11:32:41 pm »
Linksys router, Linksys cable modem (Comcast high speed internet), wireless.

Whenever I try to take a large file (300mb or so) and transfer it from my PC to my laptop via the network the Internet goes down.  It isn't the network that goes down as I can still transfer files and print, but I have to reset (unplug) the router to regain access to the Internet.

Thoughts?

Hm..
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

The router probably sucks. Something on it is hitting a deadlock.

See if you can upgrade your firmware?

Also, can you access the Internet from any computers plugged into the router? Or does it just stop working for the one?

If the firmware update doesn't work, try disabling your Internet connection for 10 - 14 days. And don't access the Internet from anywhere else, either! Let us know how it went in a couple weeks. ;)

No machine plugged into the router right now ::) ... I should put it back on my desktop, my room mate doesn't need it now.
