You should still get a 'login prompt' if gdm doesn't start.  Login, and do $ sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Heh, I killed/reloaded Slackware probably 5 - 10 times in the first 2 months I was using it. One of the best ways to learn, in my opinion, is to break/re-install it. Each time you do it, you get better.

Haha, totally.  I'm pretty sure I broke it a bunch of times too.

Maybe I'll try Fedora, I had better luck with that in the past (except my computer itself kept getting fried before I really got used to it)

Bender: Helmut Spargle has a message for you. He says (hoarse) "Ooh, I'm dead!"
Elzar: Spargle, huh? What he do, bland himself to death?
Bender: No. He was eating some food I made and by a crazy coincidence his stomach exploded. Now I'm here to avenge him.

You said that your computer just happened to keep getting fried when you used Red Hat.

Bender said that the guy's stomach just happened to explode while he was eating the food.

Coincidences?

Maybe I should watch more Futurama to understand that?

No, it should be evident from the quote. In fact, just from this line (I gave the other two for a little context):

Bender: No. He was eating some food I made and by a crazy coincidence his stomach exploded.

It's making fun of the fact that your computer "kept getting fried" when you installed Red Hat. What a "crazy coincidence"!

dpkg-reconfigure xorg-server
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

That's because Ubuntu comes with all kinds of extra crap.  What you should do is download ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers you need and burn them to a CD, and then you can install those on Fedora and all should be well with the world.

Now that I finally have Windows & ubuntu on, I can pray and hope for the resolution solution to appear
