There 'punishment' was being forced to eat on the gym floor w/o trays. Whoop de fucking do. I used to do the eqivelent all the time.

Exactly, what I'm saying is that they never described the punishment. We don't know if they were forced to lick the gym floor or have an uncomfortable lunch.

So was the food, like, literally on the floor? Or was there a plate between the food and the floor? Because that detail makes a pretty huge difference..

And what does anything have to do with "snow-flakes"? That confused the hell out of me, I thought they were eating snow flakes off the floor or something..

I think that it's stupid to get mad at the schools for punishing the students, soon there will be no way to tell the kids that they are breaking the rules at all.  It's dumb, the teachers are already put in a hard place with out trouble making kids, then, to add the trouble making parents on top of that equation's to much for the school systems.

Take away their recess, send them to the principals office, but don't purposefully risk their health.  That's just dumb.

The only thing kids learn about punishment is how to not get caught. Extrinsic motivation doesn't work.

I'd like a littler more info on what they did wrong. The article leaves it open to interpretation about whether the kids were really out of line. I like to imagine that one fat kid was sitting in a chair that couldn't support him, and when it buckled under his weight, it caught him off guard and caused him to spill the water he was holding. The other nine kids were punished for witnessing it.

Obviously it's a pretty unlikely story, but it appears that the reporter didn't even attempt to get any the important details. It's all he-said, she-said.
