I had 4 removed and was awake with just novocaine. It's not too bad until they get to the root of the tooth. My jaw hurt for a while and my face was swollen for a few weeks. Other than that it wasn't bad at all.

For people like iago who fail at reading between the lines, I obviously was trying to determine if it was simply a freak case (the odds of a particular tooth not growing)^4, or genetic.
