My Bose headphones broke!  I am super mad.

I have had my headphones for over a year now, and the other day while listening to music as I walked to Physics, my left headphone stopped working.  I just assumed that it was because my headphone plug came out of the ipod a little and since I was just about to class I just turned off my iPod and pushed my headphone plug back into my ipod.  After class was over I put my headphones back on and turned my ipod back on and the left headphone was still not working.  I took my ipod out of my pocket to see if my case was blocking the plug or something, but instead it turns out that the cord from my headphones to the headphone plug got pulled out somehow.  I have absolutely no idea how that happened and I am not at all thrilled about that.

Anyone know if there are any stores that can fix this problem?   Such as a Radioshack or something?  I'll call the Bose customer support here in a bit, but I want to see if I can get them fixed first.

If the problem is somewhere in the wire, you can fix that pretty easy by snipping out the affected area, stripping a little bit of the wire for each phone, and twisting them together, then wrap each individually with a little bit of electrical tape and then the whole area with some electrical tape.

Electrical tape is not duct tape.  Please don't "fix" wire corruption/breaks with it.  Use a correct solution such as a wire pinch or solder + heat shrink insulator.

Not to mention I doubt the wire is the problem, it sounds like the wire's connection to the headphone jack is broken.  If you don't want to open the headset and re-solder the connection yourself, either find a friend that will or replace it.  You probably won't find a "repair shop" that will fix it for less than the cost of replacing the set.

Definitely. High-use wires like headphones, where you're going to be jogging or throwing them around or stuffing them in backpacks, end up getting abused and electrical tape will unravel. Solder and heatshrink tubing is the best bet if you want to do the job right, and once.

Oh, I guess that makes sense. I used electrical tape to fix a short inside my guitar about a year ago and have had no problems so far.

Electrical tape's biggest flaw is that when it heats up, it falls off.  It is never intended to be more than a temporary fix, or simply a wrapping tool.

That doesn't bother me at all.  I do it regularly if I'm in a hurry to be somewhere.  There are a lot of people in the plaza area here that do surveys (usually Christians trying to no-so-subtly convince you to join whatever cult it is they belong to) and they tend to not stop people with headphones on.  Plus, it blocks out the sound of the annoying pricks complaining about how hard their sociology 101 test was or how their physics TA didn't give them the answers to problem 4 on last week's homework.

I'd be more likely to sympathize with you in the mall situation, but I still think the "in a hurry" excuse can apply.  If they're just there to pick up a few things and they don't want to stop to talk, then it seems like a nice way to get away with it.

I guess the base reason it doesn't bother me at all is because I don't think social interaction with people I don't care about is necessary or beneficial for me when I have other things to do.

I think it depends on the situation. If I either don't want social interaction or am doing a long walk, I'll wear headphones (although I pull them out as soon as interaction seems possible).

I frequently walk from my parent's place to my place in the late evening (10pm or later), which is an hour-long walk down a deserted street, then down a long creek path. There is basically no chance of human interaction, so wearing headphones is perfectly justifiable to me.

Also, on the bus, I usually wear headphones and read. Also at work I wear headphones when I'm reading -- those are times when I'm actively removing the possibility of distractions (ie, social interaction). When I'm programming or studying at home, and I don't want to hear the phone ring or anything like that (I live alone), I'll also wear headphones. Again, it's to get rid of distractions.

So yeah, precluding social interaction is often the point.

I blame genetics -- everybody on my mom's side of the family looks like they're in bad shape, but most of them exercise fairly regularly.

I have no idea what you're talking about with the guns -- do you mean for safety? I'm not worried about being robbed or anything, if that's what you're talking about, that kind of thing doesn't normally happen around here (at least, not in that part of town).
