Fallout 3

End of the month. Woot!  Most of you have probably never played the original two or the "third" one they had out, but it's an awesome series.

Fallout 1 was good, haven't played the other two.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

Fallout 1 & 2 were like the best RPGs ever. This game just looks awful. I never really liked that morrowind/oblivion kinda stuff and taking that style of game play and setting it in the fallout universe doesn't look at all appealing to me.

My room mates are really excited for this game.  I personally think it looks great, but I wont be playing it.  I don't think I will have good enough computer specs to run it at a desirable setting.  I also prefer MMOs.
The once grove of splendor,
Aforetime crowned by lilac and lily,
Lay now forevermore slender;
And all winds that liven
Silhouette a lone existence;
A leafless oak grasping at eternity.

It's more a mix of Max Payne and Fallout: Tactics IMO.

After playing it for three hours or so, it's definitely just like Oblivion with guns.

Not that there's something wrong with that. It's pretty awesome if I don't say so myself, although I do prefer the Oblivion world for this sort of game compared to the post-apocalyptic world...

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I'm really a fan of post-apocalyptic anything. Ugh.... Can't wait to get this, it's going to completely destroy the 7 page paper and 400 page book I should be working on/reading.

Some of my friends got it, and they love it. From what they've said, and what they talk about, it sounds like a really cool game.

Ive been hearing a lot of negative remarks about this game from people on irc. =\

I'm going to side with warz here. The storyline was pretty engrossing but that's all it had going for it. My negative remarks:

- side quests are pretty boring. That being said, Oblivion side quests were linear and simple too. But Oblivion side quests often had twists to them (e.g. "WAIT! I DIDN'T KILL HIM! HE'S A WEREWOLF!!") and they were easy to access/didn't pull you away from the main storyline too much; Fallout ones are kinda far out and can often detract from the main storyline. There's also the lack of an indepth side quest (e.g. Oblivion's Fighter/Thieves/Mages Guild quest lines) but I'm not far enough to say that's the case; of course, Oblivion had the Arena as soon as you stepped out of the sewers so maybe I'm expecting too much.

- combat blows. I won't lie: I'm biased towards swords and shields. Combat with those is often easier to do and you don't take as much damage. Don't get me wrong, Fallout has melee weapons, but against a guy with a rocket launcher (whom you can't sidestep or strafe around) you lose unless you get point blank and cripple his arms. Ammo is pretty scarce (almost as scarce as money), condition is a bitch to repair (WTF @ not being able to repair anything to 100% right away...) and aiming is a bitch too without VATS, and you only get VATS if you do things without it. (VATS = aiming for specific regions and it automatically shoots for you.) Oh, and the two guns that would be useful at this point (a shotgun for aiming in a general direction and a sniper rifle for shooting long distances) aren't available right away (or at all?) so it makes combat dumb. On a personal dislike, people's body parts splatter off too easy. One shot to the arm shouldn't knock half an arm off.

- for its steep requirements, it looks pretty mediocre. It's as good as Oblivion, maybe a bit better tops. And I'm set for high graphics...

- they definitely designed the menu system with a console-oriented approach in mind. It's a pain in the ass to navigate; I'm guessing with a controller it could be a lot more fun.

I pumped about six hours into the game and got nowhere, and I don't really have any drive to keep playing it except for the hope that it'll get better. I got to [spoiler]Galaxy News Radio and that huge fucking Mutant Brute[spoiler] and got bored, tried some sidequests, got bored with that, and quit.

But as an aside, I never really got pulled into Fallout 1 like everyone else either. I beat it, sure, but I never really went back. The post-apocalyptic world doesn't fit well with me I guess. Even the towns that I am around frequently don't commit to memory, and I constantly find myself looking around on the map for places I'm constantly going. :/

I have to admit, I've always liked games where body parts get blown off and stuff. I always thought every shooter should have that - for grenades, shot guns, etc.

I didn't really play Oblivion, but I watched my roommate beat the game, and the side quests. He liked it, but it always seemed too slow paced with not enough reward for your work, to me.

If you like open world games, and shooters (which is what oblivion was going for it sounds like) you might like FarCry 2. I bought it and have played it for a little while. I'm about 8% into it, haha, but it's a lot of fun. One of their big selling points was how the fire realisticly spreads, I think. It's a cool addition to the game. You basically ride around, stealing cars and shit, taking over encampments and making allies or enemies with whichever factions you want.

I also bought Brothers in Arms Hells Highway, and it's pretty cool too. I think CoD5 will pwn it, but Brothers in Arms has the arms being blown off and stuff which is fun.

I'm still liking it thus far. I'm level three and I have a shotgun, so I'm not too sure what you're talking about, Newbis.

I'm six and I have no such shotgun. Where did you get it?
