Happy Christmas from down under!
« on: December 24, 2008, 05:11:06 pm »
And for those of you in Canada, maybe you can explain Boxing Day to me?  It was a bit of contention with my friends in Canberra, but that's ALL the commercials have been talking about.  Boxing Day this, Boxing Day that, blah blah blah blah blah, sheesh.
I have a programming folder, and I have nothing of value there

Boxing day is pretty much like your American Black Friday thing, except on the 26th of December.  This helps stores clear any stock they don't want after the Christmas rush is over, and allows consumers to get their hands on stuff cheap.  :)
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

What is the original tradition of boxing day? What started it?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day

I was about to retract my post because I went there a minute or two after I asked. :(

Do you, or any others, do any thing special on the 26th? Are there any traditions that you, or your family has on boxing day?

It involved poor people and other traditions, but it's been co-opted as a shopping day. :)

Boxing day's been growing out of control lately, I've noticed. It's become boxing week and some stores start weeks early or go weeks late, and have pre-boxing day sales or post-boxing day sales. The whole thing's spinning out of control!

Holy bump, batman!

When I was a kid, my mom told me that Boxing Day is the day when you put your Christmas presents that you don't want back in the box and return them to the store.

<Camel> i said what what
<Blaze> in the butt
<Camel> you want to do it in my butt?
<Blaze> in my butt
