I'm pretty sure it says the name of the host before you join. So I call BS. Actually, no, people are pretty dumb.

Actually, it's pretty easy to advertise a game with your battle.net name and either spoof a different name in the game lobby or use some W3GS magic to just 'not show' a user (where a second user like Chris.Hansen would appear to be the first joiner/host).
