Looking for a Hard drive
« on: May 31, 2009, 12:50:46 am »
So I am looking into a 1 tb harddrive to store all my original photos, games, movies, whatnot. and I am looking through new egg and they have some for $70-200
and I am comparing them and nothing seems too different.
is there something I should be looking for?

and is there really a difference between internal and external? performance wise?

Internal drives are both cheaper and connected to a faster bus (however, the actual transfer speed may get bottlenecked elsewhere).  External drives are just more convenient if you are afraid of opening your computer or need to move the drive around (like with a laptop).  I think Sidoh has a script that pulls hard drive prices from Newegg if you want a quick and easy way to get the most for your dollar.

Oh, yeah.  here you go: http://dark-wire.net/sidoh/NeweggGBPD/

I generally just rely on Newegg's ratings.  If it's 4-5 stars and has a sufficient amount of reviews, then it's probably a pretty good product.
