The goal is to figure out what the password is.
I spent a couple hours on that last night. It's tricky, but I think I've peeled back the layers and am ready to find the solution. It's actually really interesting!
There are solutions online, since it's older -- I don't recommend using them, obviously.

One of my minions (students?) tried and failed pretty fast.. I don't think he tried hard enough, though!

That's a step by step of what I did and the walls I hit. I recommend at least trying before reading that, though -- you won't understand it if you don't (it's just point form).
