"I'm not in Nigeria! Don't send me money!"
« on: June 18, 2009, 10:04:55 am »
This story is good for a laugh. Basically, the guy fell for a scam and, in a momentary lapse of judgment, gave somebody his password. A couple weeks later, all his friends/family get an email from him saying he's stranded in Nigeria and wants them to send him money to get home.

It's a funny story. :)

Maybe I should try that.  I'd like to see how many people would try to send me money.

I wouldn't ACTUALLY be kidnapping myself, I'd just say I was.

That happened to an attorney we are on a list serve with.  The list gone an email from him and everyone was confused.  Someone ended up calling the guy, making sure he was in town and then reporting back to everyone else.  It was quite entertaining.

A new spin on this story:
http://darkreading.com/blog/archives/2009/06/facebook_419_im.html

Basically, using Facebook Chat, his 'friend' asked him for money because she claimed to be stranded in London.

Whether it's London Ontario or London England is unclear. :)
