Anyone seen this?  I heard some excerpts on the radio that sounded pretty funny.

Ron Paul is in this movie.  I saw clips of the scene on the Internet.  I think this part would have been a lot more funny if he had chosen an obviously corrupt conservative like Carl Rove.... I felt a bit bad for Paul :(.  He's so innocent.

Saw it last night. It has its funny moments, but it's definitely no Borat. Don't even bother if you're homophobic. Lots of situational comedy, most seems pretty fake/staged/scripted. Lots of male frontal nudity. Not really a movie to go run out and see in theaters, but that's my opinion.

I got the opposite impression from seeing the commercials -- that it's basically a movie made for homophobes (or, at least, people who think homosexuality is a joke). Am I incorrect? (I don't pay much attention to commercials these days)

Knowing Sacha Baron Cohen, he definitely intended more to have fun at the expense of homophobes, and to expose homophobia, than to entertain homophobes.

For example, this is an old Bruno sketch, where he interviews a "Gay Converter" priest.   It gives you a feel for what the character is about.

Apparently it's all real

It's definitely meant to laugh at people who are severely homophobic.. Also, the gratuitous amounts of male nudity and blatantly gay EVERYTHING suggest that homophobic people would not be comfortable.

Against my better judgement, I went and saw it last night. And, despite the fact that I hate how he reinforces the homosexual stereotype, it was pretty good.

I wasn't really impressed with Ron Paul in it, though. He basically ignored it for awhile (which is fine), then took off and kept saying "he got all queer on me" or something -- not the kind of reaction you'd see from a tolerant person, IMO.

Ohwell. :)

I think even a "tolerant" person would act like that lol. I was more surprised that they could meatspin us in a movie theater than by the reaction he gave haha

I just saw it.  I didn't think it was as good as Borat, but it has some really funny parts.  I think my favourite part was when he was screening his idea for a show to a test audience.  His "interview" with Harrison Ford was awesome. :P

It was good for a laugh or two, but I feel like I wasted $10. Half of the people in the theater got up and left part way through.

Tough crowd.. that didn't happen here.

I'm curious, what part was it at? Was it because of the nudity and such, or just a general dislike?

That's strange.. were not that many people there in the first place?

My theatre was only about 1/4 full, but no-one left as far as I could tell.   I don't really see why anyone would leave, assuming people have a vague idea of what the movie is about before they buy a ticket.

I suspect the worst reaction would be from people expecting to go to a movie making fun of homosexuals, and then being disturbed by the over the top homosexuality.

I think it's kind of strange someone as intellectual as you enjoyed this and Borat.

It was an 11 o'clock show on a weeknight, so there weren't many people there, maybe like 30 total?  It was before the worst of it, for sure.
