Wording of Apple's SLA

or run the Apple Software on any non-Apple-labeled computer, or to enable others to do so. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on mcomputer at a time, and you may not make the Apple Software available over a network where it could be used by multiple computers at the same time.

Serious question here. If I put an apple sticker (which came with my iTouch) on my Inspiron 1525, does that make it an Apple-labeled computer? Obviously that's not the intent of their writing, but legally?

(If you're wondering, my instructor's a bit upset at me for stealing OS X so I'm considering buying a license.)

He's the school's representative for a contract with Apple that can apparently be terminated if his students are using illegal copies of their software. That makes it his business in my book.

That's the lay explanation; the legal wording is more elaborate. Even if it wasn't, you're not using Apple's OSX; you're using a hacked version (bootloader/kernel) that violates several different agreements.

I'm pretty sure "Labeled" has a legal definition.  In legal documents, you can't exactly define the terms used at your own discretion unless the word really is ambiguous.  Even then, there are probably some constraints on how it can be used.

I don't know... a computer that Apple labels as their computer? An Apple-labeled computer. Get it? Your Dell is Dell-labeled. It's in their favor every time.

It's pretty simple stuff. It's how legal stuff works. =P

"Labeled" in this case is probably used as a past participle, as in "The computer is labeled by Apple (that is, Apple performed the action of labeling it), so it is Apple-labeled."
