Vegan Tofu Burgers

They taste pretty good. I just made some, but instead of the basil leaves I just used a quarter cup of dried basil flakes, mostly because that's what I had laying around. Toasted bun, lettuce and ketchup. Yum!
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

I had some sort of vegan burger the last time I was in winnipeg at some bar/lunch place with iago.  I have no idea what type of burger it was, but it was better than the average hamburger hands down.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

I find that this is true in general, although I'm not sure if the veggie burgers I've had in the past are vegan.  I don't really like beef, and it takes an excessive amount of seasoning for it to taste good to me.  At that point, you might as well apply the seasonings to tofu or something.

Veggie burgers aren't usually vegan. They generally use cheese for flavoring, and/or eggs as a sticking agent. Boca has a vegan veggieburger, but I'd recommend against trying it. :P

I like hamburgers, but only juicy ones.  The only place you can get that around here is Wendy's, as sad as that is.  Wendy's has good bacon too;  Bacon is delicious.

*Most* veggie burgers are vegan, in my experience, but there are a few who aren't.

You're talking about the actual patty, aren't you? People choose different topics.

Yeah, the patties. Buns can often be questionable, which sucks, but toppings/sauces can easily be changed.

There's a all-vegan veggie burger place in my city, it's called Boon Burger. Amazing stuff.

Just one, but be careful - it can feed an army (makes ~30 patties, but they last forever in the freezer):

1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup broken corn chips
1 bulb garlic
1 cup red onions (1 red onion)
1 cup carrots (2 med carrots)
1 cup beets (1 big or 2 med beets)
4 cups cooked black beans
1/3 cup Bragg_s Liquid Aminos Seasoning
1/4 cup corn starch (mixed well in _ water)
1 block medium firm tofu
1 block extra firm tofu
1/2 cup nutritional yeast
3/4 cups rice flour
6 cups moist cooked rice
2 tbsp. Salt
1 tbsp. Pepper

Cook the rice.

In the food processor, blend up the seeds, corn chips and garlic until you have fine crumbs. Scrape em out into a container big enough to hold all the VB mix.

PULSE the onions in the food processor. You want fine pieces of vegetable, not a soupy mush. Dump out. Pulse the carrots and beets, then dump.

Pulse the beans, Bragg_s & corn starch. Scrape the sides if you have to. The beans don't have to be obliterated. Texture is good. Add beans to the container.

Add the rice flour, nut yeast, salt & pepper to this mixture.  Mix well.

Crumble in the tofu.  Add the rice & mix it in with your hands or a big spatula. Using the hand blender to break up the rice will destroy it in short order.

Mix this all very well. Think cultural mosaic, not enclave.

This mixture should not be too wet.  Add more corn chips, rice & rice flour if necessary.

Grease the pans with oil.  Grab about a _ cup with your hand & form into a baseball (little bit smaller though).  Place on the pan & flatten it out slightly.

Bake 20-25 mins on one side 5-10 on the other.

mm, sounds delicious.  I'll have to try them sometime. :)

Thanks!

My sister recently decided to be a vegetarian, so it'd be good to have some vegetarian-friendly recipes on hand.
