So, my phone decided to take a dive in the depths of the toilet. Whoops.
I immediately turned it off, and there was a streak in the center of the screen as it tried to turn off. Then, the screen started changing colors in an orderly fashion (smooth fade from black to gray to white to yellow), then eventually it just died. So, I decided to let it dry for a bit. I plugged it into the charger and it jumped to life. It sounded like it was making sounds, so I turned it off and stuck it outside. Out here, it gets hot fast. So, after about 30 minutes, it was smoldering hot to touch, so I moved it into the shade. After 10 or so minutes, I brought it inside to sit. I went back to reading, came back 30 minutes later, and amazingly enough it was on.
It seems to work fine (I'm still letting it sit to dry), though the only noticeable problems I have are:
•
Speakers at the bottom do not work at all. Not an issue -- only one of them has worked since I've owned the device. Apparently this problem went away.
• It won't turn off. Not an issue -- airplane mode takes care of the only situations in which I'd need to turn the phone off.
• It thinks there's a device plugged into the USB port at the bottom, and said device is not compatible with the phone, so it continually pops up a query asking if I'd like to turn airplane mode on. Rather annoying.
• Device seems a bit slow and sluggish... but it could be my imagination.
If the third issue gets really bad, I'll swab the water sensor in the headphone with bleach and turn it white, and return it to Apple. If they don't believe me and/or say I have to pay the $200 repair fee, I'll just wait for the new iPhone to come out and see if I can jump ship onto that.
Moral of this story: don't check e-mail in the bathroom (I think that's what I was doing, the shock made me forget pretty much anything that happened before that). Or at least, don't put the phone on the ledge above the toilet (where the pipes and shit go) if it's clean and slippery.
Oh, and my headphones work better now. Haha.
