I guess it depends on a lot of things, but that sounds like too much; I am a tiny bit familiar with the Calgary market relative to other real-estate markets.

Calgary is extremely expensive right now, and it was in a nicer neighbourhood (bordering downtown).

I know people who were paying $1500 - $2000/month for fairly small apartments.
