I couldn't find that recent thread where I suggested a tax on junk food, but this is relevant. The Senate is considering a tax on soda:

Well, that sucks. I'd have to pay more to get my delicious sugary nutrition.

Well, soda, fast food, and junk food in general is dangerously cheap. That gives it a huge edge over healthier alternatives (I can buy good orange juice for $10/gal, or pop for $2/gal). So I can see it as a good thing. :)

So...

10 Canadian dollars = 8.56751 U.S. dollar

per gallon of orange juice.

Yes?

The juice I buy here is $7.99 + tax for 2.89L. That's $11.05 + tax/4L (gallon).

And it isn't even good juice -- it's Tropicana (concentrated, made by Pepsi)

I was wondering why your orange juice was so expensive, and then I remembered that you were from Canada, so I went ahead and did the exchange rate conversion.

What brand of orange juice would you consider good, if not Tropicana's? I'm actually serious since I don't drink OJ too often.

Well, fresh squeezed (by you) is the best, but that involves more work than I'm normally willing to go through (lemonade from scratch, on the other hand, is worth it :D).

I consider anything that has no additives and isn't from concentrate to be 'good'. If it's organic, that's even better.

This "pop" substance must be growing on trees!

But if you buy Tropicana you can enter a code and save 100 sq ft of Peruvian rain forest!

And a 20oz bottle of soda is $1.49, that's not cheap. Water is obviously the cheapest (and best) even in bottles. Juice is sometimes less than soda, or around the same price. It's ridiculous.

On the topic of soda, everyone go buy Pepsi Throwback. It uses real sugar instead of HFCS and is much better/no syrupy aftertaste.

Blah. I got a 65/100 on this midterm for physics. I'm really hoping that's without a curve -- if it isn't, I gotta pull off at least an 86% to get a raw B- in the class. :/

I can't catch a break and pass anything this quarter, short of programming. And I'm in three classes. Maybe physics isn't for me.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

There's a difference between juice and decent juice.. you can get the "water juice flavour + sugar" cheap, but that's no better than pop. 5 Alive and Minute Maid = pop, basically.

$1.49 is super cheap, especially compared to juice. I checked the price for a good organic juice here, it's $5.99/2L.

Things could be different where you live, come to think of it -- we have to get our juice shipped from the far south, which is much closer to many of you.

All pre-employment stuff is done and I officially start my first real job May 26th.  I move-in to my apartment in Maryland the 21st.  I'm excited.

What part of Maryland?
