Guild Wars
« on: July 31, 2005, 09:08:43 pm »
I just bought the game today, looking for anyone else that has been playing it.

My account name is darkwire@dark-wire.net but my character name is Mythix Of Darkwire

Let me know if you play it or not!

From what I've heard, this game is blast for about a month, and then it gets really old. *shrug*

I heard the same, but from when I got the game ~3 days ago, to when it came out, they've added a lot more content and missions, its really neat, you dont need to buy some expansion kit to go to new levels and missions.

I was hearing this from people a few weeks ago, who'd quit the game a few days before I talked to them.

It's very PvP based, is what they said. I guess that's pretty cool, but I can definitely see it getting old. Battlegrounds in WoW is awesome, but I'm sure I'd get sick of it if that's all there was to do at endgame.

there's two different worlds, roleplaying or you can choose to do PVP.

There's both of those in WoW too :)

Guildwars is like diablo, and WoW is like everquest.  Can you compare diablo with everquest?
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

While I disagree with your comparison, yes, you can.

Everquest is referred to (by those who have played it) as Evergrind because the game gets extremely redundant and boring towards the end. WoW isn't anything like that.

It's also referred to as EverCrack, which is similar by effect and by name to what WoW enthused patrons experiance/nickname the game.

I am extremely enjoying guild wars right now, though its not as complicated level wise as I'd like it to be, it still takes good time to max out, and even after you max out in levels, quests still pop up, even though no experience is rewarded.

That's about the same as WoW, except it takes several months (assuming you have an outside life) to get to 60.

The guy I was talking to about Guild Wars at the Technology Forum I went to said he's gotten to 20 (that's what he said the maximum level was) in two days.

Thats power rushing, that's not playing through the quests, and arenanet does have the capability of setting the level maxout higher, but for some reason they haven't done it yet.

Haha. Well yeah. Blizzard does with WoW does too, but I don't think they're going to. They plan on implementing "Hero Classes" later on.

I kind of power rushed on WoW and it still took me a few months to get to 60. :)

thats the whole point dude, a low cap. This game is supposed to be focused on PvP. Thats what the end-game is. What they were trying to do with this game was get rid of the huge time sink, which they've done.

In WoW you could PvP at any level but the serious PvP'ing happened post-60, thats when it really becomes about your tactics as a player, not just ganking people 10 levels lower than you.

By making a low cap in this game, everybody is "level 60" (in WoW terms) so the PvP is all about skills, not level gaps. This is furthered by the fact that you can only have 8 skills equipped at a time, unlike EVERYTHING you've trained ever in WoW.

Its a different kind of game, dont' think of hitting the cap as the end, its the beginning.

Two words to burn that: Battle. Grounds.

The PvP system in WoW can be just as skill-oriented as it is in GW, there's just a lot more to do asside from PvP. That's why I play it and not GW.

Ganking low levels is fun anyway. Mind Controlling a level 30 off of a 1,000ft cliff is great.

It was great fun. I have some good stories. I'll probably go there again sometime soon... I'll try to take videos this time. :) I do have a few screenshots.

Just mind control joe to hitting himself in the nuts with a fiery sword 3 or 8 times.
