How hard is it to replace wireless card in notebook?
« on: August 06, 2009, 03:14:22 pm »
Looks like mine is KIA.  The switch on the side of my laptop does nothing (doesnt even slide like it used to), and the FN+F2 (short cut for turning wireless on/off) does nothing.  I'm gonna take it apart, I guess, and see what I can find.  Laptops are obnoxious to work on.  I replaced keyboard & HDD, but this wireless thing seems to require total removal of case.

The majority [if not all] wireless cards used in laptops are built into the motherboard itself; ergo, no replacement is possible (well, unless you're a CompE..). I'd look into OEM parts or perhaps a PCI wireless card for laptops (if those even exist), but my guess is you're SOL.

If your laptop has PCMCIA slots, get an Orinoco wireless card. They're nice.

It's tough to say. On my laptop, it is really easy to take the wireless card out and put a new one in. There's probably a tutorial online for your particular model if you want to try it that way.
errr... something like that...
