Actulally, I'm almost positive that's how it works since it's translating from one protocol to another (there has to be some intelligent parser to translate).

Unless he has an internal modem, I really don't see why he's worried about it.

Well, he said he'd rather me not upload the recording, so I'll obey, but yeah, he'll tell you himself that it does infact hit his computer, but yeah, meh.

Yea, and that computer is still down, I decided to buy a new one, in which I did! I suppose I should buy a new motherboard for it sooner or later, I mean.. it would work fine with one that didn't get scorched

Even still, the data from the line should be buffered inside of the card, and electricity wouldn't necessarily transfer to the rest of your computer.  Anyway -- you should get an external modem for exactly that reason (just in case).
