Boom!
« on: September 27, 2005, 12:36:21 pm »
We just had like, a one-second blackout, which was long enough to have to restart my computers.  If you noticed the servers were down, damn you're good :P

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

That's $30 more than I want to spend.  And I'd need to get at least 2, because my router and servers are in a different room.

How much load can those batteries handle? And how long will the batteries last (The first thing to stop working on a UPS is always the batteries, and you're not saving money if you're replacing them every 6 months)?  Also, there are safety issues; at work, we had a cheap UPS whose battery leaked and it started a fire (I'm told).

My parents have one of those for their computer, I don't see why they need it though they never use it. It's like $87 for it new, but they got it free when they purchased their computer. I want it, especially since I lost a HDD due to a power flash (just on/off). Stupid negros.

My harddrive bombed when I shut down my computer in "the wrong way."  The registry pooped out on me... it was a pain to restore.

But anyway -- I think UPS' are worth the extra money.  Especially for servers.  However, the power probably goes out a lot less often in iago's area than it does mine, so it's probably not nearly as useful for him.  :)

It's went down twice since I've been hosting a server.  And the first time was for about 6 hours.
