The world won't end in 2012, but it will change with the coming of the 6th world (we're currently on the Mayan's 5th world). The magic will come back, and there'll be orks, trolls, dwarves, elves, etc.
At least, that's what Shadowrun says.
I'm starting to like this '6th world'.
