Pen!
« on: October 27, 2005, 08:25:09 pm »
This is a pen:
http://www.javaop.com/~iago/pen.jpg

But it's special.  You know why it's special?  Because it was free.

Well, sorta.

In class today, my teacher threw it at me.

Why?

To be continued!

Oh, and by the way, you will notice a series of 8 numbers below the pen.  If somebody can tell me what they mean, there might be a prize in it.

<edit> Hell, if you can figure out what they mean, I'll mail you the damn pen!

You mean 10272005? That's the date, iago. You have my address, next day it.

I love the Pilot G-2 07, it writes great! That's what I use mostly. :)

I meant written on the paper, you loon.  It starts with "214". :-P

And the pen is actually mostly dead.  That's probably why he didn't mind throwing it at me.  I mean, all I did was make fun of him...

Oh, that number!

It still doesn't compare to my pen!

Here are the pens I actually use:

http://www.javaop.com/~iago/goodpens.jpg

I like having a black and a blue one.  I also left the wrapper for a blue one there, since I bought it today (although I already owned the exact same one, but it ran out of ink).  I love it.  Mmm, extra fine 0.5mm...

The number is from the block of

1 2
3 4

You read it out backwards first

2 1 4 3

then you went diagonal

2 1 4 3 4 1 3 2
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

You're right that it corresponds to the block of numbers, but there's a reason it's in that order.  It wasn't arbitrary, I wrote it down a few days ago to help me remember them.

That looks more like a blue sharpie than a blue pen, and the diagram looks like an electronics schematic concept, but I can't see all of it.  I also don't see "2", "3", or "4" on it (aside from "LED2" and "LED3"), which might be what you're referencing, but I can't be sure.

The diagram thing is a finite state machine, for a program I wrote.  http://www.javaop.com/~iago/cs455/q3/main.c is how that ended up looking in code.  Also, it's an overhead pen.  For the overhead projector.  And no, the 2 3 4 refers to some numbers written on the page near the pen, not to the diagram.  They just happened to be on the same page.

Ergot -- you are correct; however, the trick is knowing what the path represents.  That's what I'm pretty sure nobody knows, which is good, because I want to keep the pen.

Tell us why he threw it at you!

Does he not like you?  Were you drawing on overhead sheets?  Were you writing something on those erasable calanders?  Does he not like you?  Were you being too smart?  Did you answer a question that made other people lose intelligence? Does he not like you?
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

It's because he's Canadian.

(Yes, I realize the "he" causes confusion on who I'm speaking of. Luckily, it works both ways. :) )

We're both Canadian, but he's lived in the US.  Grrr. :)

Tell us why he threw it at you!

Does he not like you?
That contributed

Were you drawing on overhead sheets?
Nope

Were you writing something on those erasable calanders?
Nope

Does he not like you?
That's still part of it

Were you being too smart?
Sometimes

Did you answer a question that made other people lose intelligence?

Does he not like you?
Yes! OK?

We spent the first part of the class going over our midterm exam (27.5/35, whatever that works out to).  There was a bonus question, "In the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries, at the 14 minute mark, what flies by outside the window?".  Of course, it was the Serenity from Firefly.  I got that right :)

Anyway, he got into a big talk about how Serenity didn't do terribly well in the box office.  He had already admitted that he and his wife saw it 3 times each.  He said "It almost broke even at the box office" and I said, "from your family alone!".  Yeah, big laugh.  Then he went on to say, "It'll make a killing from the DVD's! Especially those freaks that buy 2 copies!" and I pointed at him.  He said, "You know what, Ron?" and threw his marker at me.  Ha!  Free marker.
