Chain emails...
« on: October 29, 2005, 01:42:57 pm »
Hmm, I got this cool email about how to piss off spammers (like, real spam.  The snail-mail kind).  It was funny, and helpful, and I was getting ready to post it here (becaue I hate forwarding emails).  Then at the bottom, it said:

Quote
THIS  JUST MIGHT BE ONE E-MAIL THAT YOU WILL WANT TO FORWARD TO YOUR FRIENDS

So I deleted it.  Like Hell they're going to tell ME what to do!

Was it involving those handy pre-payed envelopes, and mailing all of the other ads back to them?

Please show me where they told you what to do. They didn't.

I'd have liked to have read it.

Too late, it's deleted.  And don't worry about the information, it was nothing breathtaking.

And they suggested I forward it to my friends.  That's more than enough for me to not do it.  If any given email has some good information, and that's it, then fine, I'll forward/post it.  But if the email suggests I do it, then I'm not going to :-)

It doesn't suggest, it just says it might be.

You might be straight.

I'm not suggesting you're straight, you could be gay. I don't know. I'm just saying it's a possibility.

But it didn't just say "might," it also said "want" and "You might want to be straight" is a different thing entirely, it almost sounds like a threat. Like "You might want to learn to rap, or I might shoot you."

Haha, good job Super_X :-)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's suggesting it.  If nothing else, it's putting the idea in my mind; and that's enough.  If I think that an email is worthy to forward, I am going to do it on my own.

What if an chain email told you not to forward it to others?
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

They still intend me to forward it, so I still wouldn't.  I don't care what they say, what's important is what they mean :)

Ah, forwards.. May they burn in Mexico.

This is why I make it standard procedure to block someone who sends me Forwards (as in the generic, 'Send this to six people and your wish will come true!' or 'If you like this, forward it to as many people as you can!')  after a warning or two not to do it again. Someone who deals with that sort of nonsense shouldn't have the right to plague my inbox, dangit!

Yarr!!

I give zero warnings. Basically, I tell my friends to "fuck off" on AIM/MSN if they send me some bullshit chain message, and then next time they get blocked.  What's retarded is I asked this one girl why she does it and she's like "i don't know why lol ij ust got it from a friend" I was like, "Well stop being a dyke and don't fucking send it to anyone. Or, just don't send it to ME."

Hehe, yeah.  Especially since spammer's e-mail addresses are nearly without fail spoofed.

We weren't talking about spammers, though, we were talking about friends who send you an email that says "Send this to 100000 people in the next 30 seconds or the universe will end"-style emails.

I have no idea what that thread has to do with this.  DV sent a normal email, and somebody misinterpreted its intent.  What's that have to do with Sidoh's mail-bombing-style script?

Sounds like the question I was going to ask! :)
