Incidentally, Java has a very powerful 3d API. 

The reason JavaOp2 is slow is probably because I'm doing something stupid. 

You both sound quite ignorant in that quotation.

yes, see JOGL and some other libraries.

Also see Runescape which is a rather popular MMORPG written in Java. I must agree with iago's ignorant comment.
