Dear Sidoh (Re: your auditor)
« on: November 21, 2005, 10:03:39 pm »
Just for my record, let's figure out what the stat bonuses are.

The bonuses to each state is a multiplier, either 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 3/2, 2, or 3 (or anything in between, really).

Obviously, 1/4 = very crappy, and 3 = very good, 1 = average.  Pixies move at 3x speed and have 1/4con.  Elves have 2 dex, dwarves have 2 con, etc.

Here are the attributes.  Since you're a RPG'er already, I'm sure you can figure out what they mean.  If in doubt, just ask:

Strength
Constitution
Dexterity
Speed
Intelligence
Charisma
Willpower
Perception
Luck

Spellcasting is based on Intelligence and Willpower.

Hand-to-hand combat is based on Strength, Dex, and Luck

Ranged combat is based on Strength, Dex*2, and Luck

Let me know what you think appropriate multipliers are.

ok, I know what constitution generally means in a sense, but what is it exactly? and what does it have to do with the skills, or does it have to do with interactions?

Constitution is how strong the character's body is.  The wiktionary defines it as, "The general health of a person".

High con means high hitpoints, resistant to disease, can run far, can exhert themselves really well.

Low con means.. well, the opposite :P

Con is a lot like Stamina.

Dexterity - 2
Speed - 1/4
Intelligence - 3
Charisma - 2
Willpower - 1
Perception - 1/2 (Range of vision sucks)

The only other creature that has reduced luck is Kzinti.  I don't know if that's necessary, but if you think it fits the character, then sure!

He has double charisma?  From your description, they didn't sound very charismatic.  It's not a problem, just double-checking :)

Everything else looks good to me.  Every stat there is perfectly fine with me.  Thanks!

I put two because I figured their dark, overpowering appearance would strike fear, causing people to obey their orders/believe them.

I have no problem with reducing it to 1, though.  It does make just as much sense there; same deal with the luck multiplier.  I don't think the race I've described would be particularly lucky.  Though I suppose 1 would make a bit more sense since they're probably not particularly unlucky either. :)

Go ahead and change Charisma and Luck to 1's.  Upon review, I think they make more sense that way. :)

Ok!

Of course, they could use their dark presence for intimidation tests, and you'd probably get a bonus for that.  Why not? :)

Awesome! :D

Haha, I keep rambling on about Metascape, but it's a really great RPG.  My boss put a lot of work into it.

Anyway, my boss developed a bunch of "kits" for reach class.  The "kits" kind of allowed you to pick a path for your character.  Before he implemented them, the Shanask (which were pretty much always warlocks (although I think we had a few "Mensei" Shanasks, which use physic waves/blasts and things of that nature)) were pretty much restricted to "shadowy" type magics.  After he implemented the kits, you could buy some "light" kits, which basically allowed you to control light in interesting/entertaining/useful manners.  IE you could create a beam of light underneath you which illuminated everything so brightly that there were no shadows.  You could enclose you and your surroundings (in a ~1m radius) in a ball of light that was unseen by entities outside the ball.  There were also a few "heal-y" type kits, which I think I were the ones I bought for the most part since metascape doesn't really have a priest-type class.  There are medkits and things, but Shanasks can't use them since their bodies function differently. :)

By the way, I was reading up on magic (it's been awhile) -- turns out that spells are based on intelligence, willpower, and dexterity.  I'm glad you gave yourself a dex bonus, that works out great.  I was going to make you pick another stat in lieu of having high dex, but since you do have good dex, life is grand!

I was reading through my friend's dad's list of spells.

I can't wait for Sidoh to get the 4 spells:

Take That You Fiend
Sez You
Oh yeah?
Yeah!

Take That You Fiend is the standard attack spell, which does damage = your intelligence + spell adds.

Sez You counter-spells TTYF and sends it back at the caster, adding the other mage's intelligence + spell adds to the damaage

Oh yeah? Is the counter-spell for Sez You (and also for Yeah!), and also adds the caster's intelligence + adds and returns it

Yeah! Is the counter-spell for Oh Yeah?, and also adds the casters intelligence + adds

Basically, It goes like this:
You: Take That you Fiend
Him: Sez You
You: Oh yeah?
Him: Yeah!
You: Oh yeah?
Him: Yeah!
You: Oh yeah?
.....etc.

Every time it's bounced, the damage is increased some more.  It isn't until one of them fail their roll that the spell goes off.

I love that one..
:)
