Attribute points
« on: November 21, 2005, 10:38:03 pm »
As I mentioned, these are the attributes for every character:

Strength
Constitution
Dexterity
Speed
Intelligence
Charisma
Willpower
Perception
Luck

I'm just wondering what how you guys would prefer choosing the ratings for them.

By the original rules:
- Players each roll 3d6 9 times (humans roll 4d6, dropping the lowest die, 11 times, and drop the worst two, I believe).  They then assign the 9 values they get to the stats they want.

An alternate method:
- I assign you a number of points calculated based on average dice rolls.  You then assign the points to your attributes however you like it

I prefer the first way, personally, since I like a little randomness.  And if you have a really really crappy set of rolls, I'll let you re-roll everything.

But I can see how some people would like the less random approach.

Opinions?  If nobody cares, I'll use the first way, but as always I'm open.

Honestly, I think it's almost necessary for the randomness to exist in character generation!  It makes your character unique! :)

Vote "YES" on 1! :D

Haha, well, in Shadowrun there's absolutely no randomness.  I guess it's good and bad, really.  :)

And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

Hehe, yeah.  I suppose there would be a considerable amount of situations where randomness would take away from fun.

I say we roll once Newby's done making the xchat plugin. :)

1~ I think it being random and you not bening able to redistribute points makes you choose what is the most important in your character, and with the randomness- truely unique, making the game more fun and interesting with the diversity

Well, with the multiplier things, you'll have a much higher chance of getting high numbers for some attributes (like my Auditor's Intelligence is going to be damned high since the multiplier is 3, but his speed is going to suck, since it's 1/4).  But yeah, randomness rules!  Entropy FTW! :D

Also, if you roll a 7 and put it in intelligence, you have 21, which is high, but not super high.  Or, if you roll a 18 and put it in intelligence, that gives you 48, which is an absolutely ridiculous number.  But the whole point of T&T is to be completely broken and abuseable, so that works :)

I could make an absolutely disgusting archer character, pretty easily.  But I'm not going to mention how :)

Hehe!

I don't know if you've ever played Galactic Encounter (I think that's the name of it -- it's a board game.  I think it was developed by TSR), but it's insanely unfair.  You get an "Alien Power" at the beginning of the game; some of them are insanely gay, other ones are ridiculously powerful.  It's a great, fun game! :)

Woot..postage!

I vote for #1.  I like to roll my stats, it feels so much more hands on (because it is!).

Doesn't everyone need to create their multipliers?

They're set for most standard races.  I let you do it because you had a unique custom character and you are experienced.
