I ripped an entire Ludacris album to about 14MB. The loss of quality was noticable, but it wasn't horrible.

I used winlame. It worked nice. I just used lame now... I can fit about 18 songs on my shitty 64 mb mp3 player.

So on 16, you might get 4.  Unless you encode them at like, 16kbps or something, so they only actually have like 4 tones.

I've gone as low a 96 kbps without realizing much of a difference, any lower sounds like poopie

Yeah, but in order for quality loss to matter much you need to try it with actual music.
