I see your point, but it's because they're American.  Americans have direct access to the media and the media eats this kind of stuff up.

Alternatively, haven't you ever seen the commercials for the starving kids in Asia/Africa?  They may be much more impersonal, but at least it's recognized by the average American.

I was talking to my friend about this today and he said it was the other way around and that the media had reversed the survival ratio.  Stupid media.

Yeah, last night it was 1 dead guy & the 12 (I honestly can't say I ever heard them say that the 12 were alive though).

This morning I was confused & didn't realize the TV banner said 12 DEAD 1 alive.

It wasn't simply a media error, the recovery crew knew that there were 13 people, and they had found one dead. They went alon further and heard moaning underground, and figured that it was the 12 people (which is also how they knew where to look). The guy reporting it got a bit ahead of himself at the church and said that all 12 were alive, word spread to the media and such. When they went and dug down to the moaning, it turns out that there was only 1 person moaning, the others were dead.

Technically, the media errored. Technically, I errored when I told my dad that the miners got rescued, but its cause I recieved bad information, as did they from the safety reporter. The safety reporter errored by assuming that the people were still alive, however you wanna look at it, someone errored.

hahahah @ my dad today. (when i got in the truck) "Hey, did you hear about those 12 miners?"
