Installing Firefox 1.5.0.1 on Ubuntu 5.10
« on: April 10, 2006, 07:30:09 pm »
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FirefoxNewVersion

Nice guide. Setting restoration didn't work, but I don't use bookmarks beyond the toolbar anyhow, so I don't care. Was pretty straightforward, and it allowed me to keep 1.0.7 as firefox.ubuntu

The reason that I posted this here is because, due to Ubuntu's APT system (same with debian), it's a real pain to install newer versions of software shipped with the OS.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

Why not download the installer from www.mozilla.com and install it yourself?

Fuck the APT system for some software...

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I use Mozilla's FTP.  ftp to ftp.mozilla.org, follow the obvious folders, download firefox-version.tar.gz, extract it, move it to /usr/local/lib, and point your shortcut there.  It's not very hard..

Too easy. Mine requires clicking ala Windows installers. Joe's way just sucks.

That's exactly what I did, went to mozilla.org and got the installer. I just had to cheat the system to allow me to do it.

You suck and so does your distro.

(That's loosely quoted from a mailing list: you suck and so does your filesystem)

Ubuntu isn't dyslexic, but deadly clearly is. <3.
