Compatable RAM?

I'm working on building a computer. Nothing worth writing home about (It's going to be a true piece of crap), but I've got a question.

I'm working with some 72pin SIMMs, and I have four slots. I'd like to put in 3x 8MB sticks and 1x 16MB stick, but I'm not sure if they're compatable?

By the way, if anyone wants to get rid of some 16/32MB SIMMs (or any older (or newer ^_^) computer parts), contact me. I've got a bunch of junk pieces that could be tossed together with your stuff to make a semi-decent box.

I'm pretty sure if you're using SIMMs, you can't mix pairs.  So you can have a pair of 8s and a 16 and an empty slot, but you can't have a pair of 8s and and 8+16.  Refer to the mobo manual to check on which slots are pairs.

Sorry, I got rid of my SIMMs about.... 5 years ago.

Also, make sure they have compatible parity.  Count the number of actual chips on each circuit board; this is the "parity."  All the chips you plan to install should have either even or odd parity; you can't mix and match, or else the BIOS will fault with a parity error.

The formentioned room is overflowing, and I have pieces nessassary to build one. I can install Linux + GNOME and a few games and sell it.
