The thing about this sort of lawsuit, though, is this company is a heavy reliance of our nation.  Countless individuals, businesses, etc rely on its functional state.  Because of this, the government will often "grant" them large sums of money.

Or at least I think.  I suppose there are alternatives that would benefit from this, and would definitely be able to replace them.

A lawsuit is asking a federal court to order President Bush, the National Security Agency and Verizon to end a secret snooping program, and Verizon's stock took a hit on the news Monday.

"The Telecommunications Act of 1934 is as clear as clear can be," plaintiff Carl Mayer said. "You can't turn over the records of your customers and if you do so it's $1,000 per violation. The Constitution is very clear. The Supreme Court has consistently held that the Fourth Amendment prevents unlawful searches and seizures which we believe this to be."

I think the Bush administration will stop it. I hate to say it, but it'll be another bullshit matter of "national security" and as much as I have supported Bush in the snooping in those known to be in contact with terrorists, when it's everyone he's crossing the fucking line.

First off, this is old news, they are also trying to sue ATT.  Now, I am not sure at the moment but I thought I read Bush did get the case thrown out because the case would reveal national security information.
