I just finished my third week at Great White North (
www.gwn.ca).
I have to say, it's an awesome job. Although PHP/MySQL development isn't my thing, I still enjoy doing it. The work is challenging and rewarding and we get to see results (ie, get feedback from clients) almost immediately.
Here are some points about the job:
- It's a small company. I can think of 11 people there, including myself, but I could be off by a couple.
- Everybody's amazingly friendly. Everybody talks and laughs and shoots elastics at each other over walls. It's an amazing atmosphere
- My friend started there yesterday, so now it's even more fun.
- On Fridays we get to drink beer and go home early. I normally work 8:30 - 5. At 3:30 my boss put a bottle of beer on my desk and told me to stop working. At 4:00, he told me (and everybody) to go home.
- It's within biking distance, which is always good.
- I get to have Linux on my workstation
- I get to (in fact, I'm practically required to) listen to music. They complained when I didn't bring headphones the first day.
So yeah, 3 weeks in and I've got an awesome job. Just what I wanted coming out of University.
