BOOM goes the iago's house!
« on: June 05, 2006, 08:06:41 am »
Yeah. There was going to be a terrorist attack (BIG one) on Manitoba this morning, but the mounties owned the dude or something. That's why Canada is awesome.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

There were some middle eastern people stockpiling weapons in Toronto.  Thus, people assume that they were terrorists, and they probably were.

I think that it's pretty unlikely that they had plans to attack Canada, though.  It's more likely that they were using Canada as a staging ground to prepare for an attack on the US.

See, we can catch terrorists without infringing on people's rights and privacy.

They were pointed at Canada & were found by internet surveillance...same stuff we've done.  You must support President Bush & all of his surveillance stuff too?

I got in a bit of an argument with my mom the other day.

Brother: I love Georgia! Ludacris is from Georgia!
Mom: So is Usher. Atlanta Georgia, A-Town.
Joe: W-Town sounds cooler.
Brother: W-Town?
Joe: Winnipeg Manitoba
Brother: Duh, Canada is retarded. (That is why I hate him, he's such a damn moron)
Joe: Mom, Bobby's making fun of the best country in the world!
Mom: The best country in the world is the United States and if you don't think that you might as well leave.
Joe: k.

They don't go into details, but I suspect that the web and email records were obtained with a court order.  Otherwise, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner would have a field day with it.

I absolutely do not support unjustified surveillance measures.  By unjustified, I mean surveillance with no court order or no evidence of wrong-doing.  I've talked to officials at CSIS before, and they are very clear that absolutely no unauthorized spying on Canadian citizens takes place.  The only place to get authorization is in a court, with proper evidence of wrong-doing.

If they did catch it by monitoring innocent people, then I have a major problem with it.

Seriously, are you guys this stupid?  I'm not denying the fact that the USA is a great country, but the "best" country in someone's mind is based on highly subjective observations and conclusions.

I'm pretty sure the USA national deficate is one of the largest in the world.  The USA is in debt to itself.

That aside, the most powerful country never necesitates coexisting with the best nation to live in.  You've never lived in Canada.  How the fuck can you say that?

Ok mr.traitor, look who has the most purchasing power for a moment.. Ok, have you noticed the United States and the European Union are the top 2, and China is 3rd? Money is direct ranking of power in the real world, and we're number 1 buddy, making us the best country in the world, and a free one to boot.

Nice try, Asian.

We had this reinactment of "Congress of Vienna" at school. For a brief history review:

The congress of Vienna held place after Napoleon was captured and all the land he captured had to be redistributed.

Anyways, the countries involved were: France, Prussia ( Azn was in that  ), Austria ( newby and I were in it), Russia, Italy, and Great Britain.

No one had a clue what to do except for Austria.. The first debate was whether France should be returned to its original boundaries ( an obvious "yes" since Napoleon took over half of Europe). Everyone voted "no" except for Austria.

..GG.

We ended up getting most land next to Russia, who already had the largest anyways.

I'm going to be brash.  GameSnake, you're a fucking retard.

Why should I have illogical pride for my country?  I've already stated that the US is a great place to live.  I'm simply saying that you're enormously stupid if you honestly think "the US is the greatest country on Earth" if you've lived here all your life.

The method is the important part.  If evidence is obtained in a legal way, and the evidence is presented to a judge who decides the evidence is strong enough to take further measures, that's fine.

To everybody arguing completely vapourous points -- this "study" factored in a whole bunch of.... factors, and determined which countries are the best to live in.  The US is #13, according to that (with Canada very close behind, at #14).

Of course, it doesn't take into account all the reasons why I consider Canada to be a superiour country, which is fine.  I suspect that Canada isn't the best all around country, but I still think it's a damn good one.  Since I've never lived in any of the other countries on that list, I couldn't make a statement about them.

Here's another study, which I believe is funded by the UN, which determines which cities are the best ones to live in based on political stability, culture, environment, recreation, etc.  This study ranks Zurich, Switzerland and Geneva, Switzerland the best cities to live in, with Vancouver close behind.

Those studies are mostly meaningless, obviously, because they only take certain characteristics into consideration.  But at least they can be the basis for possible intelligent argument, not just the useless "We're better!" responses.

And incidentally, if money is power, than the US has the least power.  With the largest national debt of all countries, the US technically has the least money :P

I say Canada is better than USA. First reason, they don't have a president, they have a prime minister. Basically the same, but it's a more churchey title so I like it! =) =)

Second, they have high taxes. And do you know why? So that Medical insurance is provided by the country and not the people themselves, which leads to poor people not getting screwed over from the day they're born, but actually getting their lives saved and potentially ammounting to something.

Third, iago lives there.

I'll ramble more when I'm not putting up with Tory's POS laptop keyboard on his bed.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

But what happens if that system is too slow?

Or, why cant it just be that the "snitch" is made up of the companies that provide the government with info that can allow the gov. to draw certain conclusions when they place this info with that info?

You damn pansys. Have pride in your country, the United States of America, if we should need a war drive you guys would fuck us over.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU, WHY DO YOU KEEP BLATANLY FLAMING AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT??

By the way, they were from MY City.  They had 10 times the amount of explosives then the oklahoma bombing.  Not to mention Canada has recently been named as a terrorist target due to we're ACTUALLY FIGHTING in Afganhistan.

Many of my friends lived near these terrorists, which will serve life terms.

Three of the people were formore students of my highschool, so we had the media around all day trying to get peoples comments.  (My school had produced Drug dealers, Alchololics, and now we get to add Terrorists to the list.  Yay.)

Heres the fun part about the US, if we dont have something we take it. Oil? What lets take it. Money? Let's take it. We are the top country, hands down no questions asked.

This is obviously a joke

The united states enjoys the most freedom of the world however, we set an example for every other nation to act on. Withought us having the balls to do that all of you would still be paying taxes to some king or queen.

The terrorists are such a huge minority that I wouldn't be too scared.  Just stay away from the CN tower, it's bound to go down eventually.

There were states that didn't have kings/queens before America, and there are currently states that have a king/queen.  Therefore, nothing has changed.

I use bleeding-edge Linux software.  Most of what I have is the early releases of new versions.  Windows doesn't have bleeding edge tools, only released software.

I'm not sure how long we've had a constitution, or if we even have one.  we've only been a country since 1867, so it can't be more than 130 years old.

By using Linux he's prepared for even the stable software to break at times. If we don't want that, we'll use Windows.

Living in America, stable things break too. The alternative is Canada.

@CrAz3D: I think that the Koran is a lot older than that. As for the Torah, that was written two years after the world began (I believe), but that's a different story.

Crazed: you can't prove that Joe's beliefs are false.  He can't prove that they're true either, but that's not the point.  He can believe that the world began shortly before the Toran was written if he wants.

Also, Joe, wasn't Genesis and whatnot written by Moses?  He lived quite a while after the world began.

The US didnt becomes its own country from Great Britians hold until 1776. So that would make us around 230 years old. Not even close to 400.

Ignorance is bliss. 2 years after the world was made would send us back almost 100 billion years ago [If that] You cant really prove a doucment was written back then and it is still in its entirety to this day.

@Joe. If you can answer this one question I will STFU on the bible all togther. Why isnt there one seard of Text mention on the dinosaurs in the Bible, Koran, Toran? I would really like to hear your answer. I have got the following from friends/HardcoreChristans.

1. "Noah didnt like the dinosaurs so he didnt let them on the boat"
2. "When Jesus was killed The dinosaurs died"

And my all time favorite

3. "Dinosaurs were never real. People just made bones and put them togther to look like Dinosaurs."

How do you know the 7 days described were the days we have now? A 'day' could have meant 5 billion years, 2 seconds, or any period of time. The animals he created could have included dinosaurs for all we know, as the Bible doesn't get specific. The animals he created 'Monday' could've died out by 'Thursday'. Even if that was not the case, as Sidoh said, Joe should be free to believe whatever he wants. Why all the harsh criticism?

ZeroX, where does it say anything in the bible about cats or mammoths? It doesn't, but they still exist.

Deuce, God is omnipotent and knew what we'd call a day and wrote it as a "day", because we'd understand it.

CrAz3D: If the big bang theory is totally crap, who's to say the world has been around >6k years? I'm really doubting that it's much more than the upper 5000s, because they've found Noah's ark, which occured 8 years after the world began (I believe). Of course, from your point of view, it might not have been Noah's, but whatever.

Crazed, even the evidence suggesting that the world is 4-5 billion years old leaves room for reasonable doubt.  It does not provide an inherent answer to the question "Just how old is this planet?  The Universe?"

According to passages in the bible, as Joe has said, the world is about 6,000 years old.

Believing in dinosaurs/pre-historic man and believing the direct text of the Bible are mutually exclusive.  So if you're a literal Christian, you can't believe in dinosaurs.

But God obviously put them there to confuse us.  Duh.

I'm christian, I believe in intelligent design, hardcore creationism just seems stupid to me.  We've found things that say the earth is 4.6billion years old, how do you explain that?  How do you explain the ancestors of humans that date back 60k years?

3. No one "won" the cold war. It was called the "cold" war because there was no fighting, and really there was just supposid espionage and wepon stockpiling.  The Berlin wall fell because a tired communist official was asked by a soviet news crew what the official buisness was about. He replied "Taking the wall down." Before the soviets where able to snub out that comment and any trail the comment had left, the wall was being taken down. The the USSR just fell from a lack of an economy.
4. We stopped being an isolationist country durring the Spanish American war. 1898. 50 fucking years before pearl harbor. We dug a ditch in the middle of a country. We sold weapons durring WWI. We where in the Pacific and Asia before pearl harbor even happened.

Fuck you, if you say shit know what you're talking about. Don't make rash judgments based off of shreds of facts.

I believe they've only speculated about areas where the ship might lay...

I'm christian, I believe in intelligent design, hardcore creationism just seems stupid to me.  We've found things that say the earth is 4.6billion years old, how do you explain that?  How do you explain the ancestors of humans that date back 60k years?

Are you aware of how Carbon dating works, Crazed?  It checks for an isotope of Carbon (Carbon 14, IIRC) in order to determine the date.  How the hell can you claim that it was impossible for God to create that object with the appropriate amount of Carbon 14 to yield said result at the time of testing?  Christianity poses he's omnipotent... you can't say that's impossible.  That doesn't mean you don't have to believe it, but you must admit that it is an acceptable explanation.  That doesn't mean to say anyone else can claim that your answer is inherently wrong either, but you need to realize that science casts a shadow of doubt just as readily as religion does on this subject.

Okay, just letting you know. We saved the world.

2. We supplied the USSR with most of their wepon's steel. We also sent them ammunition.

I know, aka we saved their asses. Before the war even started we were sending them items.

3. No one "won" the cold war. It was called the "cold" war because there was no fighting, and really there was just supposid espionage and wepon stockpiling.  The Berlin wall fell because a tired communist official was asked by a soviet news crew what the official buisness was about. I don't see the Soviet Union anywhere today, you don't have to fight to win a war. The cold war is a good example of that.

4. We stopped being an isolationist country durring the Spanish American war. 1898. 50 fucking years before pearl harbor. We dug a ditch in the middle of a country. We sold weapons durring WWI. We where in the Pacific and Asia before pearl harbor even happened.

The point is, most americans thought that we were save, and therefore didn't give the war much thought. We might of supplied weapons and such but we remained in our isolationist mindset until we entered WW2, even after WW1.

Fuck you, if you say shit know what you're talking about. Don't make rash judgments based off of shreds of facts.

Someone seems a bit mad, here's a tissue dumbass. Cry me a river.
One must ask oneself: "do I will trolling to become a universal law?" And then when one realizes "yes, I do will it to be such," one feels completely justified.

You do know that we were in World War 1, right?

Of course, I said we resumed isolationism even after WW1, we didn't get into WW2 after most of the damage was dealt. Sure we supplied some weapons but really theres only so far that can go.

Why would God do that?  Create a world with evidence of prehistoric life.. to confuse us?  Or did He want us to have a world that appeared to already be "in use"?

In case you didn't know, the Soviet Union broke up in 1986, which is about 20 years after the end of the "war".  I don't think the war killed it.

And incidentally, being a military power doesn't make a good country.

To test, abolish or question faith.  There are a predetermined number of people that will go to heaven, but unlike Jehova witnesses believe, that number is known onlyby God.  There is no answer to the question "Why did God choose the number he did?"  It is likely beyond comprehention.

From what I remember of my classes, the carbon releases/leaves/whatever at a constant rate, yes?  So unless that rate was different at sometime it'd be very illogical for something like that to exist.

I believe science helps us understand God in a different way.  I believe it shows us that things in the Bible are not exact/word-for-word.

Heavy rock thinking challenge thing:
Assume God is all PKG (powerful, knowing, good).  Then, can God create an object that is so heavy that even he cannot lift?

Sounds like proof that we don't have free will, then.  If there's no free will, then, to use a cliche, why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?
