While in Mexico we were chilling at our pool and some "very conservatives" were down there too, hangin out. They said a few things that got one of my "very liberal" things upset so he left...interesting.
Eventually the story went something about Dan (very liberal) was offended because Scott (very conservative) said that they got "jewd" by the taxi driver.
Dan(jewish) went on to say that those guys should be more tolerant...Ted(moderate left) & I (moderate right) argued that he should be tolerant of their words...and also that "jewd" just means that they got gypd (Dan had mentioned the original meaning of that earlier in the day).
It was fun getting him to realize that to be tolerant you have to accept both sides of the issues, always...otherwise you're intolerant.
I wish it was easier to convince other people that to be tolerant you have to be COMEPLETELY tolerant vs. just tolerant of one side (which isnt tolerance at all). Dan still needs work on his tolerance though...Ted's sunglasses got scratched & he said that was gay...Dan replied "it sucks, but its not gay"...trying to be all P.C. (politically correct), but failing miserably.
Later Dan told his sis a story about some other gay thing.
MOVIE ATTENDANT (MA):Can I help you?
Kid: Can I get 2 tickets?
MA: $14
Kid: I thought it was $10
MA: $10 is day showing, $14 is night showing
Kid: Thats gay
MA: No it isnt, I'm gay
</stupid story>
Actually, they're both right, wouldn't you say? The term gay doesnt mean what it used to at all. If you wanted to be uber PC gay would mean happy, homosexual would mean homo, & yeah. But I think that the kid was right in using gay as a derogatory term...the meanings of words change always.
What do you all think about this whole tolerating issues/PC terms thing?
