If the paper you end up using to cover the walls is white, spray paint the linux penguin on it.

Haha, Linux penguin owns.

Anyway, here's a picture of the room, it's probably not nearly as bad as you imagined but it's bad enough:

You're right, it's not as bad as I imagined... it's worse! :P

You should definitely put white paper on it, though. What I had in mind for my room awhile back was to write inspirational sayings/quotes/favorite lyrics/thoughts on the walls. It may seem a bit corny, but eh.

I ended up spray painting random stuff like Cartman, my name, a couple of quotes, etc., with this glow-in-the-dark spray paint. To see it, I use a blacklight, but without the blacklight, you can't see it. It has a pretty cool effect.

haha, that's kind of neat.  I'm sure I wouldn't do anything like that, but still :P

I think I could live with the yellow top-half, it's the rainbow bottom-half that I'd cover.

Whoa yeah thats ugly. I'd definitely go with the butcher paper idea or sheets. You might consider making a cardboard 'template' of the lower wall section, then you'd be able to wrap paper around the cardboard and have it look very nice. After that attaching the cardboard to the wall could be done through various means. This would also have the added benefit of hiding the wall better as the cardboard will be thick enough to block it.

If you only need to cover that bottom half, it should be really easy to do in an hour or so with either butcher paper or sheets.  Personally the top half reminds me of "The Yellow Wallpaper" though :/

According to what I read on Wikipedia, it can be "uncolored (having natural light brown color) or white [..... and] butcher paper used for arts and crafts is available in a variety of colors.

I guess it's not really the same stuff, but apparently some people consider it the same.
yeah, it was always called butcher paper @  school.

ANYWAY, do you have enough cash to buy (not rent, renting is pointless) a place of your own?  Start building your own life etc etc

I hate you for referencing such a lame short story.

@iago: I think it looks fine.  If it's more room, I'd do it because the colors really don't look that bad.
errr... something like that...

Yes, I have more than enough money, but I don't want to.  I'm perfectly happy where I am, I have as much freedom as I want and I enjoy spending time with my family, nobody bothers me, and I don't pay much.  Call me crazy, but I'd much rather live in a nice house than a crappy apartment, or even than a nice apartment.

Anyway, we settled the problem: there's another room at the opposite side which is kind of a mirror image, except that it is  slightly different shape, more windows, a bathroom, and a fireplace.  And it's uncarpeted and unfurnished, and it's always cold.  It's perfect!  It just needs to be cleaned up/maybe painted (walls are white, green, and blue, but in a logical and nice way, we'll see what we do with them).  And the room they were going to give me will become a workout-room or game-room or something.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

No, not an apartment or somethin, I'm talkin about buying your own place.  You have a job now, you should start building your own life sometime
