WTF@rasputin (Computer Problem)
« on: August 27, 2006, 05:24:13 pm »
I just finished my room today, and moved everything back in.  My problem lies with rasputin.  It turns on, and so does my monitor (and my keyboard and mouse as well).  My monitor is clearly getting a signal (when it's not a big red/blue/green box floats around the screen saying "NO SIGNAL").  The little monitor light turns orange after a second, which usually indicates it's asleep.  Nothing I do can bring it back to the world of the awake.  It's very aggravating.  Does anyone know what's going on?

Yes your CPU is dead or not properly connected/working.

Does pressing numlock have an expected result (indicator light alternating on and off)?  If not, are there any unusual series of beeps that it emits before going into said state of unconsciousness?

I'd guess that you already checked these two things, but I figured I'd throw them out there just in case. ;)

Yeah.  All the lights and everything work fine, but my monitor fails at life.

And I don't see a reason my CPU died, all I did was unplug the tower and move in 15 feet away (into my hallway) for a week.

The numlock light turns on and off when you press the button?  If that's the case, it's probably your display (video card/monitor).  Try another monitor.  If that doesn't work, try another video card.

It's entirely possible there is simply a loose on-board connection.  As Sidoh said, if the system appears to be responsive, it is probably isolated to the video output so check that the video card is secure and that all monitor connections are secure.  If you have a external video card that you are using in place of an onboard vga adapter, bios may have been reset and you simply need to re-tell bios to use the external card.

Arg!  Alright.  I think it's a new enough computer to have a VGA plug on the mobo.
