Everyone should post reasons why they are better than Steve Irwin.

I'll go first: When I see a rattlesnake in my backyard, I don't play with it, I fucking shoot it.
The douchebag method:

I crushed a rattle snake that came into our campsite.

The liberals whined, I laughed & had fun...I wish I had cut off the tail.  Good souvenir plus that would've made the lefties FLIP

Why would it piss off liberals?  Only weird liberals give a shit about people killing venomous creatures intent on killing.

-It was here first
-It isnt bothering us, if anything we're bothering it
-This is its natural habitat, we're invading it
-etc...

My thing was
-REAL NATURE: survival of the fittest

That means
Me & rocks:1       Snake:0 (& crushed under rocks only to be placed on a fireplace later)

That's fine, I just wanted to correct rabbit's defense of it.

Still, it's an easily provoked creature which could easily kill a human..

I actually don't know if either part of that is true, since I don't live near them, so I won't comment on it.

However, I still stand by my point: its intention isn't to kill, its intention is to survive.  So there. :P

Yeah, no, I dont want to sleep with that around.
It was surprising, however, that it never fully coiled up into its striking position...OH WELL, I didnt want to wait around for it to.

We found 7 within two weeks. If their intent was other than to kill, why would they be moving towards me?

All creatures are easily provoked.  Rattlesnakes aren't actually all that agressive.  They use their rattle to warn things off before they are *forced* to attack.  They would rather not be bothered then fight.  If you leave it alone, it will leave you alone. But if that doesn't work, just kill it or use the shirt trick to catch it and release it somewhere farther away.
The once grove of splendor,
Aforetime crowned by lilac and lily,
Lay now forevermore slender;
And all winds that liven
Silhouette a lone existence;
A leafless oak grasping at eternity.

lies.

Not all creatures are easily provoked.  Walk up to a bird & try to pet it...the thing will take off.  Do the same to a diamond back, I bet you die.

And for capturing a rattle snake with a shirt, WTF!?  Unless you're a trained snake wrangler I wouldn't ever try to catch a rattle in something, especially a shirt...way too thin.

First, don't be silly, Crazed.

Quote
tr.v. pro·voked, pro·vok·ing, pro·vokes

   1. To incite to anger or resentment.
   2. To stir to action or feeling.
   3. To give rise to; evoke: provoke laughter.
   4. To bring about deliberately; induce: provoke a fight.
You provoked the bird by being there causing it to "stir to action" and take flight.

Secondly, you obviously don't know the shirt trick.  You put the shirt over the head of the snake and use something else, (besides your hand) like a stick, to pick it up and move it.  Don't you ever watch Animal Planet?  And no, I wouldn't recommend doing that, but it is an option.  There are other ways.  Put the shirt over the snakes head and force it into a thick enough sack and carry it off.  There are plenty of tricks and ways that you can use to move the snake without having to kill it.

I was thinking we were using provoked like...provoked the animal into attacking.

Infact, thats how they're using provoked on Good Morning America re: Steve's death
