Buying a laptop
« on: October 05, 2006, 05:30:02 am »
I'm looking at buying a laptop. Any suggestions on good vendors, where to buy, etc ? I know very minimal amounts about laptops. Price isn't my principal concern. I'm willing to pay reasonably more for quality. I plan on running Slackware linux on it. Any input appreciated.

Dell!  You can get a big, nice laptop for pretty cheap, and their batteries last FOREVER.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

HP or Dell.

Yeah, for slackware those would be an awesome choice.  Make sure that the laptop you go with has devices with readily available drivers.  It'd suck to get it and not have like the wireless working or something else.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

I'm gonna have to say HP sucks ASS.

My desktop (HP) has had issues and so has my laptop (HP).
They're basically evil, buy a dell or something else.

My brother's HP laptop works just fine.  I just think HP doesn't like you. ;)

I'd have to agree with Dell.  Their laptops are pretty decent compared to most of the ones I've seen, and if you plan on running Slackware on it, you won't need a 60ghz processor or anything.. so it'll be really cheap too.

I think you're just suffering from rebundance.

I wasn't going to go back to Gateway, but the new tablet I bought is really nice.  But the last Intel HP laptop I had was great - the AMD laptop from HP not so much.
I have a programming folder, and I have nothing of value there

Running with Code has a new home!

Our species really annoys me.

Did you not see me NOT recommend Gateway, AND recommend Dell?  I hate Gateway with a passion.
