Christianity's Archangels?
« on: October 29, 2006, 08:29:15 pm »
I guess theres a lot of controvercy over this still today, and I was interested in your views. How many archangels are there? What are their names? What do they do? Etc.

What I believe, or have read and accept:

There's two archangels, formerly three, named Michael and Gabriel, and formerly Lucifer, obviously keeping the theory of one-third of the angels falling, each archangel held dominion over 1/3 of the angels, and Lucifer's fell. I guess Lucifer was the Archangel of Worship, Gabriel of Healing, and Michael was kinda God's messenger (think Hermies for Zeus). This is probably totally wrong, but whatever.
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

Michael is mostly portrayed or known as the leader of the angel armies and the one responsible for Lucifer's imprisonment. While most believe it was so and so as the "Angel of Death" in several passages Michael is referred to being a savior and being vengeful. So he's pretty got the bad ass title going for his side.

whats an archangle?

An arch angle is the measure of an arch. There are multiple ways of finding it; one, most common, example uses lines of tangency to detrmine the start of the arch, while others find the arch's curvature or radius.
The douchebag method:
fuck allfo you i dont give a fuck ill fight everyone of you fuck that sbhit fuck you

To answer the meaning of his question, here's the Wikipedia page. It explains most of the theories. I guess the way to descibe it would be like Archangel is to Angel as Mansion is to Shack. Like, king of the angels.

Actually, Joe, leet_muffin is right.  BAD asked "whats an archangle", not archangel.

You're claiming that what the bible says are arch angels is theoretic? :P

Joe doesn't believe in science.

Which is why I questioned his word choice.

There's only one archangel, and that's Sigur Ros.

The word theory has a number distinct meanings depending on the context.

What the bible says is not theoretic, but the conclusions one derives from its passages are.
The writ of the founders must endure.

All he stated were the names of the listed arch angels in the bible.  I don't see how that is at all ambiguous or theoretical.  :P

I'm wondering what you guys think an Archangel is, who they are, how many they are, what they look like, etc?

Revelation describes the archangels as four living creatures with huge wings covered in eyes (probably a way of referring to them as all-seeing).
