But Hitmen is right, though -- Kerry sucks at life.  The democrats need somebody good if they want any respect.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Edit: Also, most of you suck at logical reasoning, and that's why you're so easily manipulated by political spin.  He said if you don't do well in school you're more likely to get stuck in Iraq (I just watched the video), (which I'm sure is true from the statistics), and further, this does not imply that those in Iraq did not do well in school.  THINK ABOUT IT.

As far as people from ivy leagues that just got through because they had money, I'd like to see a hardcore America dude become president.  Just a regular dude that has the work ethic to get stuff done right.
That is virtually impossible in our wonderful system.
errr... something like that...

I think trust's quote is a bit off...

It's not, I typed it while watching the video.

iago: Watch the video, it's clear where the if lies.

Either way, it sounds bad.

"The troops in Iraq suck @ school"
"People that suck @ school join the army"
Both sound bad.

So that's not at all saying that "dumb people get stuck in Iraq", he said "you can do well if you don't get stuck in Iraq" -- all that seems to say is that the troops in Iraq aren't given a fair chance, which doesn't seem so bad.
No, he said "if you don't you get stuck in Iraq."  That means, if you don't make it in the "educated" world, you get stuck in Iraq.

He was trying to say "those not fortunate enough to have their parents pay the way through Yale have a higher enlistment rate, and thus usually end up in Iraq."

* OG Trust points out that both Bush 41 and Bush 43, and even Kerry were in the service.

(All were Yale graduates and in the same fraternity (Skull and Bones))

Well, the Daily Show cleared everything up, and you're all correct. The script said (paraphrasing) If you don't go to school and get good grades and all that, you end up getting us stuck in Iraq, just ask president Bush. Obviously bashing Bush, not the troops. That's neither in the quote that either Trust or Crazed posted... but ok :P

No?  I suggest you take another look at the quote that Trust posted.  So you don't have to return to page 1, here it is:
What Kerry actually said was:

"You know, education..if you make the most of it, study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart...you can do well, if you don't you get stuck in Iraq."
Emphasis added.  :P

Well, that gets tricky.  The way it's stated makes no sense (I don't think?), so you have to sort of modify the sentence to make sense.

I dropped the 'you' without thinking, getting "you can do well, if you don't get stuck in Iraq".

I suppose you can extend the second you to 'yourself' making it, "you can do well, if you don't get yourself stuck in Iraq" -- although that is still ambiguous.  It still doesn't sound like he's saying that you're dumb if you get stuck in Iraq, at least to me.  It sounds like he's putting down the Iraq war, for sure, but not necessarily calling people there dumb.  But it's fairly ambiguous, I can see it being taken either way by either side.

I, for one, am choosing to interpret this quote as blatant racism against the Iraqi people!

Although it is an effective "stay in school" slogan, I can see the D.A.R.E. sponsored commercials now...

Go to college, get an education, end up here:

But drop out of highschool, and end up here:

iago, you know you're just lookin for stuff to pick at.
Everyone else has acknowledged Kerry said something that makes him look like a complete fool, not that he isn't of course.  Also, I believe most people have accepted that it might have been a failed attempt at a distasteful joke (especially considering Bush did better than Kerry in school & beat Kerry in the presidential election)
